Short and sweet as there’s not enough depth worthy of a longer review…Directed by the great and wonderful Robert Zemeckis, it’s 1942 North Africa, where Intelligence officer Max Vatan (Brad Pitt) encounters French Resistance fighter, Marianne Beausejour (Marion Cotillard) on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Reunited in London, their relationship is threatened by the extreme pressure of the war, and then by a few secrets.
Cotillard looks like a French Angelina Jolie, Pitt looks like a throwback to Errol Flynn, and the movie set itself looks like a 1940s Hollywood backdrop. If you love all those ‘feelings’ from a classic film of espionage, you’ll love this. But you’ll also find it sluggish in spirit. There’s no ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ Branjelina thrill or chemistry. The film is more smoke and mirrors then the greatness it was undoubtedly intended to deliver.
