Ever wonder how our country got to be in the mess that it’s in? All you have to do is watch this written, directed and produced documentary by Michael Moore to learn those answers (oh, and so much more.) With his usual fairytale, belly-laugh opening, Moore tackles Wall Street’s greed, Americans’ home loss and the missing middle class, with a hilarious, mischievous and often heart-breaking look at the state of our country. Moore presents shocking scenarios like the “Condo Vultures” – a group who swoop in on foreclosures, even if it means Grandma will be homeless. Or, the fact that the pilots who fly our airplanes make less than $20,000 a year and live on food stamps? But the worse by far is a scene called ‘Dead Peasants” about life insurance scams. Want to know what a “dead peasant” is? See the movie. It’s worth every dollar and will have you cheering for his revolt. This is a movie for the people and about the people even though some place midway through the plot the very lines of democracy and socialism get blurred. Yet Moore is able to spin his message back around, and that message is that it’s time we took back the very country that Ronald Regan destroyed by giving tax cuts to the rich. Thank you Michael Moore for working your cinematic magic once again and focusing on the mad-as-hell little people. In the end you’ll be left feeling like that nerd kid in high school. The government/corporations are the bullies, and suddenly that nice kid, Michael Moore comes in for the save, so you don’t get your butt kicked in the locker room. Four Tiaras
