(documentary)
Oscar winning, controversial, triple threat producer/writer/director Michael Moore has really done it this time in tackling our President George Bush (you know, the guy who spent 42% of his 1st eight months in office on vacation?). The story opens on Election day with the projected Presidential winner being Al Gore (until Fox News informed us that a Florida recount would be necessary). So how did Bush get away with this? By the help on his brother the Governor of the sunshine state? Or maybe his cousin in charge of votes? Never the less, it’s not a dream and Bush is now President. A President who remains in a first grade classroom and continues reading a storybook to kids, after he learns our country has been attacked by terrorists. And so this “hail to the thief” movie focuses on blowing off a lot of steam and giving us a lot of Moore’s opinions, but in a way always articulately documented. Moore is sort of the Oliver Stone of documentaries able to weave slick photos, soundtrack and editing to prove his point clearly in his way. The sad thing is, it really works, because it’s all true. You’ll get a hell of a present day history lesson on the Bush families oil ties to the Bin Laden family and Saudi Arabia, long before 9/11, Not to mention their strange investment strategies in a company called Carlyle. Just try not to eat before this movie because while you’ll belly laugh out loud at the idiot in our White House, you’ll also be moved to illness and even tears when it concludes. The Democrats must love Michael Moore. And quite frankly, so do I.
