There’s a science to twins. They look alike yet they’re completely different, though supposedly they can feel and hear each other’s thoughts. Such is the case of Jack (Adam Sandler) who worries about the annual visit of his twisted sister Jill (Adam
Sandler.) Jack is an advertising exec when the film opens on Regis Philbin doing a Pepto commercial for upset stomachs.
But the big account Jack needs to land is that of Dunkin Donuts chocolate drink “Dunkacchino” that wants Al Pacino for their spokesman. Yes, Al Pacino because Pacino rhymes with Dunkacchino. Whatever.
The film btw, packs product placement from Hilton hotels to Macy’s and even Marshalls.
Whoever thought we’d hear the words “Mr. Pacino, Mr Sandler wants you back on the set!” Borrowing a beat
from Meet the Parents Robert DeNiro, the master actor dumbs it down for a hilarious role as himself. And he pines
for “Jill” Jack’s twin sister. She’s only supposed to stay four days through Thanksgiving, but now she’s staying until Christmas. And let’s face it, while we all have an over-the-top annoying relative isn’t it often the case that they’re perceived as more annoying to us than to others?
Sandler’s movies of the past couple years have taken a turn to family values with a PG rating. A good thing. And his
latest attempt to capture a “Mrs. Doubtfire-esque” role seems to work when it comes to accepting all our family members including the obnoxious ones (or whatever the case may be.) Sandler certainly had a blast doing the scene for Mysoulmate.com dating website and later the Pacino date at the mansion. Johnny Depp gets in on the fun with a cameo
appearance at a Lakers game, but it’s Pacino who steps outside his Godfather and Scarface role to steal the show.
Two tiaras for the hell of it.
