The last thing you’d expect of the best thing so far this year, comes the story of Queen Latifah, a department store saleswoman named Georgia Byrd, with a blue collar lifestyle, and nothing to show for it; unless you count the crush she has on a fellow employee (L L Cool J) and test results that claim she has only ‘three weeks to live’. When the going gets tough, the tough cash in all their savings and fly to Europe, to hang with the great chef Didier (Gerard Depardieu) and suck bon bons in the Presidential suite. Enter Timothy Hutton as a deplorable money making guru – a cross between a bad version of Donald Trump and Tony Roberts, and his girlfriend (Alicia Witt). Somehow, despite her bad luck, Latifah doesn’t lose her values that instead she spends the entire movie instilling onto others – those who have it all, including the time that she doesn’t. It refreshing to see a feel-good movie that make the audience cheer. The entire cast is outstanding and Latifah shines with an infectious charm, as she has in every role since “Bringing Down the House.” Three tiaras
