The story opens on Bill Marks (Liam Neeson) sitting in his car. He’s glancing at a photo of his daughter when his cell phone rings. Is this a sequel? Taken 3, perhaps? No, this is Non-Stop and for good reason. For the next two hours you’ll board a plane with Liam Neeson and never be bored.
There’s Lady Mary of Downton Abbey (Michelle Dockery) playing an airline attendant named Nancy, along with another woman played by Lupita Nyong’o who you’ll recognize as the young girl from 12 Years a Slave.
The film feels authentic combining the highs and lows of how people might really behave on a supposedly hijacked plane, where we don’t know who the hijacker is. At a certain point the tale turns on Neeson himself. Could he be the bomber? This turns the film into a movie he did two years ago called Unknown which is ironic as it’s the same director Jaume Collet-Serra. Neeson is a bit rough on the people he suspects as killers including Julianne Moore as a deliberately strange passenger, but all in all it’s a crowd pleasing popcorn chomping fare.
