Years ago they wanted to “Escape Witch Mountain” but now they’re racing to it! Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) is content to just be a cab driver in Las Vegas, until his backseat becomes occupied by two kid/aliens (Anna Sophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig.) They want to get back to the Mother Ship but Detective Henry Burke (Ciaran Hinds) has plans to turn them into test mice. As with all these kids’ flicks, the problem is the special effects that overthrow any real story development or one-on-one relationships. That is until about midway through the film when this suddenly feels like another movie. Enter Dr. Alex Friedman (Carla Gugino) a sci-fi freak on a Vegas convention and she joins the trio to help them make it to Witch Mountain. Dwayne Johnson doesn’t do a lot of acting in the beginning and what he does do in the second half is pretty bad. The two kids – Robb and Ludwig – do a great job reciting very robotic lines and staying in alien character. One and a half tiaras
