(rated R, approx. 96 mins.)
The latest in the “Tomb Raider” inspired video game flicks, this film is an adaptation of PlayStation’s Resident Evil in the story of a military task commandos sent to save the world from flesh eating zombies called the “Undead”. Heading the force are two women, Alice (Milla Jovovich) and Rain (Michelle Rodriguez of the memorable “Girlfight”). This translates to some fighting that will look kick-butt real. Pulsing music accompanies some grisly splattering visuals on the floor, walls and ceiling to put it er, mildly. Not for those with hearing trouble or weak stomachs. The overall plot requires no knowledge of the game to get it, though after seeing this zombie thriller you’ll be numb upon exiting the theater. Directed by Paul S. Anderson who brought us “Mortal Kombat” not Paul Thomas Anderson who brought us “Boogie Nights” but sort of like Romero’s “Living Dead” films of our generation with slicker sicker visuals. Got it?
