– Imagine being Libby (Thandie “Crash’ Newton) not only left at the altar, but left pregnant at the altar by Denis (Simon Pegg) a security guard for a lingerie store. Fast forward five years later and Libby is dating Whit (Hank Azaria) with a perfect body, a perfect home, a perfect career, that even runs in charity marathons. But when Denis is unable to come to terms with losing Libby and son Jake forever, he decides that while most men would swim the English Channel for the woman they love, instead, he decides to run the marathon, too. Even if it’s too late. But is it ever too late to try to finally finish something that you’ve started? And that’s the point of this film. While it stays away from being one of those cookie-cutter sports inspirational flicks, instead, in the fashion of great British films before it, this one is part athlete-“Bend It Like Beckham,” part hilarious “Waking Ned Devine” and part charming, stupidity “The Full Monty.” “Run Fatboy Run’ is alot of underdog and has the audience laughing, until they eventually tear up in this delightful surprise like “Four Weddings and A Funeral” but funnier. Way funnier. 4 tiaras.
