Rated NC-17. Man-of-the-moment Michael Fassbender moves from playing Dr Carl Jung in A Dangerous Method to playing Brandon, a sex addict in modern day time. And he’s naked… very very naked, and he does whatever it takes for young women to have sex with him. 24/7.
His estranged sister (Carrie Mulligan) is also naked. I’m talking full frontal, too, and she comes with her own set of issues. This is a role that gives An Education a run for its money – here she’s a needy, quivering ball of a mess. Mulligan really uses her acting chops (and breasts.)
Brandon has sex on the brain and his ability to seduce women with his provocative stare is worthy of an Oscar nomination. The movie proves chemistry prevails in attracting someone, and that men have sex on the brain every five seconds, though some have a need that must be fulfilled every ten seconds. And Brandon stop at nothing to voyeur into porn, strip clubs, and even strangers on subway trains. Incapable of relationships the movie examines the slow demise…the highs, the lows, and the eventual destruction this type of behavior can have on a seemingly normal life. Director Steve McQueen brings to the table what he brought in his previous film Hunger which is a very visual art form, but in the end, A Dangerous Method says more about sex, and being sexy, then this. Two and a half tiaras
