(PG-13) A really original romp about Joe Dirt (David Spade), an acid-washed-jean, Eddie Van Halen-car-tune-playin’, trailer park trash guy, with a heart of gold in search of his parents. Why? They deliberately ditched him in the Grand Canyon when he was eight years old of course! Now Joe Dirt is a grown-up janitor determined to find them. He takes to the road in search of mom and pop, yet finds a lot of mishap adventures along the way. When a shock-jock makes Joe a radio guest, his life story turns into a heroic, underdog saga (think Adam Sandler as Erin Brokovich minus the cancer polluted water), and an entire city tunes in to hear the adventures of Joe Dirt. His rotten parents are Roseanne and Gary Busey. Rapper, Kid Rock makes his film debut as Dirt’s rival but it’s Spade’s dry innocent humor that works in this entertaining comedy. And speaking of Sandler, the master of crazy, pathetic roles, produces this flick for his old SNL costar.
