The Benchwarmers – PG – 13 – so there’s three grown nerds finally making up for childhood moments lost; something we can all relate to having been bullied at some time in our lives. Hollywood’s trio of lovable comedy losers join forces to form a baseball team, against a mean, little league squad. Gus (Rob Schneider) is the ring-leader and landscaper by day, married to model Molly Sims (yeah, sure). Richie (David Spade) is the guy who manages a Blockbuster and Clark (John Heder of “Napoleon Dynamite” fame) is the kid with a newspaper route. Enter Mel (Jon Lovitz) a grown nerd gazillionaire who finances their wild scheme against Jerry (Craig Kilborne) one of the bully’s dads. Every Reggie Jackson gets in on the baseball fun playing himself, and giving the losers some tips. With a lot of potty humor childhood style (farting and nose picking/eating) the story rides along at an amusing pace, with only a few bad ideas that include smashing mailboxes, and mowing over the family dog. You can’t get more than you’d expect from this movie and yet it manages an energetic ONE CROWN rating.
