(Rated R, 86 min.) Opens Feb. 11
Craig Ferguson (“Tthe Drew Carey Show”) stars in what is the funniest and most original movie this year by far. Crawford MacKenzie is the Jose Eber of hairdressers in Glasgow, Scotland. After MacKenzie receives what he mistakenly believes to be an invitation to the World Freestyle Hair Championships in Los Angeles, he sets off for the tournament, taking a documentary filmmaking crew in tow.
Upon learning that he has only been invited to observe, MacKenzie schemes to get into the styling meet in hopes of winning the “Platinum Scissors” award!
Many entertainment and celebrity cameos. Frances Fisher delivers the perfect entertainment manager performance, as does Mary McCormick (“Private Parts”) as the tight-wound, air-kiss hairdresser coordinator.
The movie covers all the Hollywood inside jokes with everything from too much bottled water to needing a “HAG Card” (Actors equivalent SAG card; in this case Hairdresser of the American Guild) to be in the show. Think “Braveheart” with scissors and an attitude.
