If you’ve been wondering what ever happened to Top Gun’s sexy star Kelly McGillis, apparently she’s been hanging out as a guest at the haunted Yankee Pedlar Inn of Connecticut.
In the story, this is the final night before the inn – that’s going out of business – is about to close. Maybe it’s because they haven’t a housekeeping staff, or room service, or never have fresh towels available, or maybe it’s
because the two innkeepers Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy)are drinking Schlitz beer on the parlor floor. But whatever it is, this silly independent-feeling horror movie is more an adolescent ghost story.
The irony is that the film’s lame pacing, and crutch-style screams actually compliments itself into some form of hypnotic hysteria for the audience. And thank GOD unlike most of these low budget films, writer/director Ti West knows how to keep the camera steady. Another upside is that we actually get to know these innkeepers, their personalities and their inside
jokes, so that they aren’t your typical screaming and hair-pulling victims.
But it’s got that let’s-get-on-with-it-already feeling… that similar to most of these films never really takes us anywhere, blow the fears out of proportion and only leads to a disappointing ending. Two tiaras
