It’s about time Hollywood hooked up a younger guy with an older woman. Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) is the Editor-in-Chief of a Publishing House in NYC. She’s a lot like the woman from “Devil Wears Prada” entering the office each morning by terrorizing the other employees.  Her assistant, Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) does all he can to please her but it’s still never enough. That is until she finds out that while recently and illegally attending the Frankfort book fair, somehow it’s discovered that her Visa has expired.  Apparently the government doesn’t care about buying books. About to be deported back to Canada (her country) she realizes her only chance to save her big job is to marry her assistant. Of course it’s not quite that easy.  The officer in charge has warned them that he doesn’t believe in their faux fix-up, and plans to question them on Monday morning about their love for each other. That’s only 72 hours away. If they’re committing fraud, they’ll be slapped with a big fine and an even bigger prison sentence. In the meantime, the two will attend Grammy (Betty White’s) 90th birthday party with Andrew’s parents (Craig T Nelson and Mary Steenburgen) in – Alaska!  The thing that makes these small romantic comedies work is the fish-out-of-water element. The quirkiness of the locals helps, too (like the guy – Ramone – who runs the General store and has a few side jobs. The stripper scene is hilarious). Bullock shows she can still carry a lead role with the right amount of vulnerability by eventually unraveling into the girl-next-door. Reynolds is adorable and supportive in his role, adding excellent and believable chemistry. The only downfall is that it’s very formulaic, but still a great date flick.  Two and a half tiaras
