Over ten years ago at the Kingpin premeire, Bobby and Peter Farrelly were standing in a room with Woody Harrelson, me, and some mutual friends when the Farrellys announced that they planned to do the movie the Three Stooges. After much casting and years of waiting, their passion finally paid off as Larry, Curly and Moe went through many changes to get to the year 2012. And yes, it was worth the wait, just don’t drink too much caffeine as their crazy-hyped-up-antics are high enough.
Larry (Sean Hayes), Curly (Will Sasso) and Moe (Chris Diamantoupolous) are perfectly cast in the modern day version of these
snickering, nail slamming, head butting, trio of miserable, lovable, misfit, screwballs gone wrong. Nobody but the Farrelly Brothers could have written and directed this perfect slapstick comedy in which a lot of our Boston friends play
background roles or cameos. It’s absolutely hilarious to watch Larry David is Sr Mary Mengele while Glee’s Jane Lynch in Mother Superior. If you were raised in Catholic school – as the filmmakers and I were – you’ll appreciate the inside jokes that
rounds off the nuns with Jennifer Hudson in the role of Sister Rosemary. But the funniest of all is “Snooki” as herself
and Sophia Vergara as the naughty married woman, Lydia.
The Farrelly brothers score as always and as they have since the days of Dumb and Dumber with
fish-out-of-water goofballs plopped into the year 2012 amiddst all the twittering, iPhone jokes and Jersey Shore belly laughs. The soundeffects, the poked eyeballs, the knocked one in the noggin, the ongoing nonsense, are in the words of Larry “SOINTENTLY” right. Three and a half tiaras
