In the summer of 94’ Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck) had a summer love just before going off to college, but it wasn’t your conventional sweet romance. Instead, he befriended Dr. Squires (Ben Kingsley) a man he supplies with marijuana who in return, plays ‘shrink’ to him. And in essence, Luke plays shrink in return, showing Squires all he missed in his youth. Enter Doc’s step-daughter, Stephanie (Olivia Thirlby) who enjoys the voyeuristic element of seeing Luke’s customers through their haze of weed, while he too, learns about life through his marijuana sales. One of his customers is none other than “Union” (Mary Kate Olsen) who plays a sort of sexual muse to the good doctor. It’s a smart little movie that essentially goes nowhere but takes us on a journey that’s ‘out there.’ If all else fails, it has a slamming hip-hop soundtrack. Two tiaras for trying
