a pointless but entertaining way to spend a summer night, in a story that combines the great chemistry of two stars, from previous box office hits, Matt Dillion “There’s Something About Mary” and “The Wedding Crashers” Owen Wilson. In this particular comedy of the doomed dinner guest – the one who won’t leave – Carl (Dillon) has just married his adorable wife, Molly (Kate Hudson) and they’ve returned from a wonderful honeymoon. The only problem is that their best man (Wilson) is coming home with them. Incapable of being hired for any job, and just fired off of his last one, Dupree (Wilson) wants to spend a “couple of nights” on their couch just until he can cruise through the want ads. But too much partying, one house fire, and weeks later, he’s still there. And you know the old saying of the similarities between house-guests and day old fish. To make matters worse, Dillon has to juggle the evil tycoon he works for (Michael Douglas) who just happens to be his father-in-law. This very formulaic story, by Hollywood standards, has up and down plot points, and that fly-swat-joke repetitiveness, but manages to turn the audience into constant laughter. If you go to the theatre expecting what you expect, Wilson as the bad boy, you’ll be pleased. Beyond that, it’s just fluff. Two crowns.
